No, we’re not hiring on Facebook: Giant Kenyan brewer warns on conmen

A fake advert on Facebook claims dozens of jobs are available at Kenya’s East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

The post links to an application on Google Forms that says the giant company is looking to fill positions such as cleaners, machine operators, receptionists, secretaries, storekeepers and more. Job-seekers must pay a KSh350 “registration fee” to apply.

Africa Check has already exposed a number of scam job ads that ask applicants to pay KSh350 up front. They have pretended to recruit for public and private organisations including Naivas supermarket, Kenya Ports Authority, Tuskys Supermarket and Huduma Kenya.  

The new ad says “this amount is used FOR REGISTRATION.You will be contacted via the phone by our customer care after you have submitted your application.”

The post is on the same Facebook page that advertised job vacancies at Huduma Kenya in February. Africa Check debunked that ad as a scam.



EABL jobs advertised on Diageo website


EABL distanced itself from the ad and advised people hoping to join the company to look for vacancies advertised on the Diageo website.

“We post all the available opportunities on the website. If the job is not in the site it means it doesn't exist,” EABL’s Pauline Karimi told Africa Check.

She cautioned the public against paying a fee for to apply for jobs.

“We also do not require those applying for positions at our company to pay anything,” she said.
