Can the use of ivermectin as a prophylactic drastically reduce the risk of getting COVID-19?

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has said more research is needed before it could approve ivermectin for use in humans. “To date there is insufficient evidence for or against the use of ivermectin in the prevention or treatment of COVID-19,” SAHPRA said in a 28 January 2021 statement. However, in the interim, SAHPRA will implement a compassionate use access program. SAHPRA says it will adjust its position on the use of ivermectin as needed after it has analysed available evidence.
