Did Nairobi’s governor really suggest putting Hennessy in food packages?
Yes. In a video that went viral, Mike Sonko claimed that the alcoholic drink acted as a “throat sanitiser”. “In case the virus is somewhere in the throat, it kills,” Sonko said.
Hennessy, the maker of the cognac, put out a statement dismissing the governor’s claim. According to the World Health Organization, “alcohol (at a concentration of at least 60% by volume) works as a disinfectant on your skin, but it has no such effect within your system when ingested”.
