How does Africa rank in terms of meeting global water and sanitation targets, such as the sustainable development goals (SDG)?
Significant but not enough progress has been made in meeting Africa’s global goals towards the provision of safe drinking water and sanitation. In terms of millennium development goals, Africa has reduced the percentage of the population without access to water supply by 21%. Water coverage increased from 56% in 1990 to 65% in 2013. However, most of the progress has been achieved in urban areas.
