How many new HIV infections occur in Zimbabwe each year?
In Zimbabwe, the number of people becoming infected with HIV each year has fallen by more than half over the past decade. In 2022, about 0.17% of adults in Zimbabwe were infected with HIV, and the number of new cases fell in all age groups. Among adults, the number of new HIV cases fell by 7%, and among children by 9% between 2021 to 2022. Over the same period the number of new HIV cases fell by 6% among people aged 10-19 and by 7% among people aged 15-24. In addition, the proportion of adults aged 15-49 living with HIV fellfrom 26.5% in 1997 to 11% in 2021. Estimates for 2022 suggest that around 1.3 million people in Zimbabwe are living with HIV.
