How much wheat does Kenya produce and consume?
In 2019, Kenya produced 366,000 metric tonnes of wheat, according to the Economic Survey 2020. The country consumed 1,988,000 tonnes of wheat as food. A total of 19,000 tonnes were used as seed and 148,000 tonnes had “other” uses. Another 98,000 tonnes were lost.
According to provisional estimates from the United States Department of Agriculture’s foreign agricultural service, Kenya produced 320,000 metric tonnes of wheat in 2019/2020. The country consumed an estimated 2,480,000 tonnes of wheat in the same period.
