What is the estimated number of teachers on the African continent?

In 2022, Sub-Saharan Africa had 4.9 million primary school teachers and 3.5 million secondary school teachers. In the same year, North Africa had 1.2 million primary school teachers and 1.3 million secondary school teachers.

The greatest need for additional teachers is in sub-Saharan Africa, where financial constraints and a rapidly growing school-age population mean 15 million more teachers are needed.. In North Africa, 4.3 million additional teachers are needed.
