What is Kenya’s electricity generation capacity?
In 2019, Kenya’s installed generation capacity was 2,819 MW. This was an increase from 2,712 MW in 2018. Installed generation capacity is “the maximum theoretical electric output a power station could produce when operating at 100%”.
The effective electricity generation capacity was 2,736 MW in 2019 (in 2018 it was 2,638 MW). This is the “maximum electric output a power station is expected to achieve given current operating constraints”.
The 2019 numbers are provisional.
