Which African countries have the highest life expectancy at birth by gender, for countries and regions?

Overall, women have a higher life expectancy than men in Africa. Female life expectancy in North Africa/Middle East is the highest at 76, followed by East Africa and Southern Africa (67) and Western and Central Africa (60).


The three African countries with the lowest life expectancy for women are the Central African Republic (57), Chad (57), Nigeria (57) and Sierra Leone (57).

Male life expectancy in North Africa/Middle East is the highest at 70, followed by East Africa and Southern Africa (62) and Western and Central Africa (58).

The three African countries with the lowest life expectancy for men are Nigeria (55), Chad (54), and Lesotho (52).
