Which province in South Africa has the highest murder rate?

According to the latest crime statistics for the third quarter of 2022/23, the Eastern Cape has the highest murder rate in the country at 22.5 per 100,000 people. This has significantly overtaken the murder rate in KwaZulu Natal. In the same period last year, the two provinces were level at 15 per 100,000 people. KZN remains the second most violent province, with a murder rate of 15.6 over the same period. This is followed by the Western Cape with 16.5, and Gauteng with 10.6.
