How much debt does Kenya have?

The Kenyan central bank reported the total public debt was KSh11.24 trillion as of January 2024. An estimated 55.1% is external debt owed to foreign creditors, including countries and multilateral institutions, and 44.9% is domestic debt owed to banks, pension funds, insurance companies, and individuals.

The Kenyan national treasury had put the public debt as of 31 December 2023 at KSh11.14 billion, with 54.7% as external debt and 45.3% as domestic debt.
