How does South Africa’s obesity rate compare globally?

The World Obesity Atlas provides information on how many people in each country are overweight or obese, both now and in the future. In 2016, 31% of men and 67% of women in South Africa were overweight or obese. This is higher than the global average in 2016, where 39% of adults were overweight (39% of men and 40% of women) and 13% were obese. The Atlas predicts that by 2035, 46% of adults in South Africa will be obese.
