Has the United Nations issued an organ trafficking alert for the Middle East?

A viral image that claims to be a “United Nations Alert” has warned people against travelling to the Middle East because of the allegedly “booming” black market trade for human body parts in the region. However, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime has refuted the claim. In an email to GhanaFact Brian Hansford, Chief of Advocacy at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, affirmed: “the message does not originate from UNODC and contains out-of-date information that is not related to current UNODC activities.”
