How many people are employed in South Africa’s tourism sector?

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council estimates, in 2020, the travel and tourism sector (direct and indirect) contributed about 987,400 jobs in South Africa. This represents a decrease of about 32.4% (contributing 6.5% to total employment), compared to roughly 1.46 million jobs (8.9% share to the country’s total employment) in 2019.
