How many people have access to mobile connectivity in Sub-Saharan Africa?

The GSMA (GSM Association) represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. It brings together nearly 800 operators with more than 300 companies from the wider mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies.

According to the GSMA, sub-Saharan Africa had about 287 million mobile internet subscribers in 2022. The mobile internet landscape varies widely across the region with penetration rates above 50% in Mauritius, South Africa and the Seychelles, but still below 15% in Benin, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
