Where does Nigeria rank globally based on media freedom?

Reporters Without Borders’ World Press Freedom Index ranks 180 countries based on how free journalists are as well as instances of abuse and violence against them.


In 2022, Nigeria was ranked 129th out of 180 countries – 14 positions down from 2020. Based on its score, the country is considered “one of West Africa’s most dangerous and difficult countries for journalists, who are often monitored, attacked and arbitrarily arrested, as was the case during the 2023 elections.
