Kenyan deputy president William Ruto began a 10-day tour of the United States and the United Kingdom on 28 February 2022.
He met top government officials and reportedly visited the White House building complex, the official residence of the US president, but did not meet president Joe Biden.
However, an image circulated online in Kenya appears to show Biden and Ruto together. The image was posted with the claim that the two met.
“Finally, DP Ruto meets Joe Biden in The White House. America,” one user posted on 4 March.
But did Ruto meet Biden? We checked.
Image altered
A reverse image search of the image reveals the original photo was taken on 30 October 2021. But it shows Biden meeting president Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo during a Group of 20 summit in Rome, Italy.
Ruto did not meet Biden in the US. The original photo of Biden and Tshisekedi was doctored.
