No, La Casera not throwing away soft drinks in Nigeria because of ‘effects on health’

Latsa nan don karanta wannan rahoto cikin harshen Hausa

A photo shared on Facebook in Nigeria shows a pile of discarded soft drinks, with people around it helping themselves to the bottles. Some of the bottles carry the logo of La Casera, a brand sold in Nigeria.

The caption reads: “See lacasera that have been thrown away by the company. Due to its effects on the body and health but some people are there packaging them for sale, please stop drinking lacasera for now and forward to your friends.”

Has La Casera “thrown away” its soft drinks because of their “effects on the body and health”?

Expired drinks thrown away by distributor

A Google reverse image search shows the photo has appeared several times online since May 2019.

And La Casera says there’s no truth to the post.

“The bottles were expired drinks disposed by a distributor of the company,” Onyeka Okoli, a representative of the beverage company, told Africa Check. – Fatima Abubakar
