SA police claim that index 'vindicates' them on crime is wrong

This article is more than 10 years old

The South African police have suggested that an index compiled by international business consultancy IHS “vindicates” their claim to have cut crime.

It doesn’t. The index focuses on the presumed economic impact of crime, not the level of crime itself. The truer guide comes with the crime statistics themselves, picking out solely the crimes committed.
